My CCA came to my life this beginning of the year and from that day onwards, i had to go for training everyday until 6++pm, reaching home with insufficient time to do work, burning midnight oils almost everyday, no time at all for revisions, scoring poorly for exams.

However would teachers and coaches understand if you miss training or homework is not done? i would really hope they will as they should know the situation we pupils are in, tired of training eveyday, reaching home at night feeling low and exhausted, in no shape to study at all. I have always been wondering, why was fate so cruel to me, i had to train everyday, reaching home at night, too exhausted and tired to do anymore work, while others' CCA is only 1 time a week for 1 hour!! They reach home and play computer while I am running my heart out in the hot sun, homework not done!

I was also thinking, what did i do wrong for tests. I studied so hard while others are busy playing computers but at the end of the day, I still get worse result. My hopes and dreams of getting exempted for tests, after 3 terms of continuous hard work is crushed and destroyed within one day!!

There might be some students facing the same problem and i really hope something would be done about this.

Racial Harmon Day

Racial Harmony day has came and the day was filled wth fun and entertainment. The school has made a few programmes which include:

-Assembly
-Indian Mass Dance
-Cultural Bazare

Firstly for the Assembly, there is a performance by each 4 consortium, performing a dance of the different 4 races in Singapore. There is also a performance by Hwa Chong Instituition and other schools, not to mention a Malay Cultural Perdormance.

For the Indan mass dance, we had so much fun with all the unkowned and weird steps. There was a group of Indian dancers helping and teaching us through these steps which Zihan proved to be a great Idian dancer. After laughs and sweat, we proceeded to the cultural bazare

The cultural bazare was entertaining and fufilling. There were so many stalls( games and food ) such as:
- Pizza
- Spegetti
- Football games with prizes
- other deserts, ( grass jelly, ice jelly cocktail....)

The one that attrated most was the football stall which we would get a prize if we hit up to a certain score. So many people joined this game but all lost except for 3 winners
( Tan we jin 1o3, Tan yu xiang 1o3(me!) and timothy chong 1o4) who got soccer jerseys.

The whole experience was a fun-fufilling one which I am sure most peope will look forward to,
not for parents though if they found out we spent so much on that....

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

This is a novel written by Robert Louis Stevenson which talks about this lawyer from London called Gabriel John Utterson who investigates the strange case his old friend Dr Henry Jekyll(Dr Jekyll) and misanthropic Mr. Edward Hyde who in the story is called Mr. Hyde.
The book is known for the presence of a split personality, split in the way that within the same person there is both, an apparently good and an evil side, each being different from the other. The book’s impact has made its title into a phrase "Jekyll and Hyde", meaning that a person who is greatly different in moral character from one occasion to the others.

I am going to give you a brief summary for this book. This goes as a lawyer called Utterson, upon hearing from his relative, Richard Enfield, about a sinister who trampled a young girl like a damned juggernaut who then disappears into a door on the street. He then re-emerges to pay off her relatives with a cheque. Lanyon( Utterson's friend) and Jekyll both gave Utterson a letter before Lanyon’s death. The first reveals that Lanyon’s death is caused by the shock of seeing Mr. Hyde drink a potion and as a result, change into Dr. Jekyll. The second letter explains that Jekyll, hoping to separate his good side from his darker side, discovered a way to transform himself only for a period o time into a creature free of conscience, this being Mr. Hyde. At first, Jekyll was delighted in becoming Hyde and rejoiced for the freedom that the creature possessed. However, he found that he was turning into Hyde even his sleep, without taking the potion. At this point of time, Jekyll decided to stop becoming Hyde. One night, the urge gripped him so hard that he immediately rushed out and violently killed Sir Danvers Carew. Horrified, Jekyll tried harder to stop the transformations, and for a time he proved successful. At a park, he considers how good a person he has become as a result of his deeds (in comparison to others), believing he was redeemed. However, before he completes his line of thought, he looks down at his hands and realizes that he has suddenly once again become Mr. Hyde. His ability to change back from Hyde into Jekyll slowly vanished after numerous reasons and was thinking to kill himself or being caught by the police, then that was the end of Dr Jekyll.

My favourite character is Mr Utterson for his intelligence to solve crimes and investigating matters.

From this Story, the main thing we can learn is the way Stevenson carry out his ideas and writing by mostly pairing evil and respectable together as a contrast to their split personalities. Through this book, Stevenson speaks about the respectability and banality of an evil safety lodged in a civil society which cannot be casted out.

Ivanhoe

IVANHOE

This story goes about two rival clans which hate each other and have been battling each other to their deaths. There was a person name King Richard the lion-hearted, though he was a Norman, he tried to restore peace and harmony between each clans but failed to do so.
He then left his throne and kingdom to join the crusades. In the meantime, his brother, john, immediately seized the throne and was careful to retain his crown.
There ware many characters in each side as follows:

Normans: - Prior aymer
- Sir Brian de Bois-Guilbert
- Prince John
- King Richard the lion-hearted
- Sir Front-de-Boeuf
- Sir de Grantmesnil
- Sir Philip de Malvoisin
- The Grand Master of the Templars
- The Abbot of Templestowe

Saxons: - Cedric the Saxon
- Princess Rowena, Cedric's ward
- Wilfred of Ivanhoe ( Sir Desdichado )
- Prince Athelstane
- Wamba the Jester
- Ulrica

Others: - Isaac of York
- Rebecca of York
- Locksley of Sherwood Forest (Robin Hood)
- Friar Tuck

The story goes about a group of Normans was riding through a forest when they were struck with a heavy thunderstorm which forced them to take shelter in their enemy's castle, Rother wood. Cedric's ward was a beautiful maiden named Rowena and even the Normans, their enemy, liked her. However, it was a crime for a Norman and Cedric would certainly disallow it. Rowena was bethrolled with Prince Athelstane but whom she loves dearly was actually Ivanhoe, a great knight.
After the dinner was over, a pilgrim emerged from the shadows and grabbed Rowena, it was Ivanhoe! He was not dead as Guilbert claim he was. Cedric, Ivanhoe's father banished him from the castle as he broke the law of loving Rowena even when she was bethrolled to a man she didn't love. Hence, he had to disguise himself as a pilgrim to keep his identity a secret and they could see each other without anyone knowing.
There was a tournament which both clans put their best knights forward to battle each other. Guilbert, a great warrior, and 5 others represented the Normans and 5 Saxon knights challenged them. Saxon lost and just then, Desdichado ( Ivanhoe ) stepped up and humiliated all the Norman knights including Guilbert and was crowned champion. The second round begins and when Desdichado ( Ivanhoe )was outnumbered, a black knight came and rescued him, defeating the Normans. Just as he was about to receive the crown, Ivanhoe collapsed, senseless, to be helped by Rebecca, Isaac the merchant's daughter, who was a great healer, helped him.
Guilbert was angry and plotted a plan to destroy the Saxons as well as Ivanhoe but was foiled by De bracy of Norman by a mistake but then captured the Saxons to be held hostage for a ransom. One Saxon escaped and asked Robin Hood for help. Rebecca, Isaac the merchant and Rowena were help hostage and Isaac was tortured to give his gold. Guilbert liked Rebecca whom he thought she was gorgeous and wanted to woo her although Rebecca hated him.
Robin Hood and his troops attacked and destroyed the Normans, the Saxons safe. Only Rebecca was taken away by Guilbert and got in trouble with the Norman authorities by bringing back women. Rebecca was later sentenced to trial and had to be burnt alive if a knight from Saxon do not win a battle against Guilbert. Guilbert on the other hand was really remorseful for bringing Rebecca to such a state and when the trial began and guilbert was dead and Rebecca was rescued.

My favourite characters Ivanhoe for I admire his affection for Rowena and his bravery to save Rebecca

Rowena and Ivanhoe lived happily ever after and Rebecca and Isaac left.

Through this story, it talks about sacrifice which guilbert had to save Rebecca from being burnt. I can infer from the story that Ivanhoe did not kill guilbert as he was too weak, guilbert killed himself just to make sure Rebecca was no burnt alive. There were also many obstacles for Ivanhoe to be with Rowena but in this story, true love conquers all.

Goal 2

When Santiago munez is signed to real Madrid , he has became more popular, more attractive and more lovable. Fans around the world are crazy about. Santiago has also improved a lot. He now plays with the top players around the world. He even is striving hard for a place as a first team regular alongside football stars such as Raul, David beckham , Ronaldo..... He became the media favourite and fans favourite. However, all of these achievements needs to put in a lot of Effort. Without 100% dedication, total commitment and effort, not to mention their self morales and fighting spirit within them, they will not be standing where they are now. He is at the biggest football club and his dream club he wishes to be in. Yet, being just a poor countryside lad, he is a superstar in the making.

From these two books I have learnt many great lessons and I would like to share them with you. Most of all, everyone should have a goal in like just like Santiago. Dream big but realistic and remember that if you work hard,you will gain more and fufilling. Know your purpose in live and make it a fighter spirit in you to drive your motive in life and make you achieve to greater heights, living the dream.

I admire Santiago as he is just like a living example of a person with goals on life. From a poor, not famous lad changed to a fans favourite,media target, is really something to be proud of. However, this all started...........WITH A DREAM!

GOAL! ( English Book Review )

<< GOAL >> by Robert Rigby

This book Goal has been also made into a movie, the main character, Santiago Munez - a young Latino in Los Angeles and his only one dream in life: to play football. He has skill, flair and determination which make the marks of a good soccer player. This story is a gripping tale of trail and tribulations, tragedy and triumph, set against the back drop of the world's most popular sport.

This story goes by a young Latino started off playing for club Americanitos and caught the attention of a scout of the English premier league club, Newcastle United. A scout named Glen.... Glen soon contacted Santiago and spoke to his club owner/ manager Erik Dornhelm of Newcastle United.

However, Santiago's father does not support his dream of becoming a soccer player as he feels that is a stupid and unrealistic job/ career. Further more, he should get a better job, disallowing him to go to Newcastle United. His father decision made Santiago fall out with him and forced him to leave home and start a new life at England.

When he reached Newcastle United, he received many setbacks and problems, such as his medical conditions, asthma. The nurse Roz who later became his girlfriend treated him and made his asthma conditions improve. He also made a good friend called Jamie who helped him during training and problem he faced alone.

At Newcastle, he gradually became the star and the media and fans are crazy about him.

This all started with a dream. This tells us that we each have to have a GOAL in life. Just like Santiago Munez who dreams of playing soccer as his profession and has great hopes of his future. We must have determination and do not stop and give up when struck by obstacles as we have friends who came help us through these times.

I would very much like you all to read this book as it gives us valuable life experiences and examples. Hope you enjoy it.

A typical day for Me

Everyday, I was awaken to the incessant ringing of the alarm, much I as hate it, I woke up. I brushed my teeth or it will stink and carried on with my breakfast. Then I head of for bus. Taking to my friends then.......woke up! Still tired, I dragged my heavy feet as I trudged wearily to my classroom.

There I see Zihan and Jack, giggling at the sight of them. But then few seconds later...BOOM, I fl back to slept, to be awoken by the chairman or monitor, it was time for flag raising ceremony.

After that, we have reading period where Zihan will...... Anyway, the lessons with Mrs. Anu will be always filled with fun and laughter then head for recess where we have to go through the daunting slope, which 'someone' has fell before.

To wrap it off with training, cross-country has really energy consuming exercises and countless number of kilometers to run but it was good and healthy.

The times I had was always fun as I laughed non-stop with friends. It was also tiring after training.

This is a typical day for Me.

Memories of school Days

The Son is in Secondary School by Hwa Chong Institution

The monitor badge shine gloriously
Under the resplendent sun
A day was not finished
Unless I am done

Noise filled the class
As scoldings followed
All was silent
As the teacher bellowed

The teacher left
It was my turn
They would not listen
They would not learn

Hard as I try
They're still making a din
Not to mention the amount of dirt
Engulfing the bin

The day's over
Students are free to roam
Relieved as I was
I can go back home

Poem Analysis

The writer has great hopes for his future in his school, there were ups an downs in his school, good times and bad times such as when black crows try to interrupt
when they sing the National Anthem and maintaining his shoes white. His school had all kinds of interesting stuffs such as bare thighs of hardworking scouts which he found rather amusing. On Chinese New Year his teacher, Mrs. Lee, actually wore a sarong kebaya sang Bengawan Solo. And it was Chinese New Year, not other Malay traditional days!

Singapore was too small, it is the capital of its own. His school was really interesting and once, his best friend shaded all 'A's during the test for his Multiple-choice paper
In the photograph, he closed his eyes and he really cherishes this photograph which shows he really treasures his times in school, with his friends.

In conclusion, the writer thought his school was rather amusing, interesting, fun and he cherishes and treasures the times in his schooldays.

CSM
For our annual NUGH AND HCI's track and field CSM (combine sports meet) 1O3 has took part in many events especially me, Zihan and Jack.
Jack
-400m
-800m

Zihan
-javelin
-400m

(I do not why but Zihan joined javelin but he did not throw it before. However, on that day, the throw coach went to Zihan and felt his "muscles" and said it was "good" and meant for javelin, he had high expectations of Zihan but when Zihan threw it, the coach was like_____________. Shocked to say the least, when he saw the javelin spinning in the air and overturn.)

Advise from javelin pro MRS ANU did not seem to help much as Zihan still got disqualified. If you did not know.... Mrs Anu is a professional javelin thrower in her younger days. (Do not be mistaken, Mrs. Anu is still very very very young)

We also got many medals
Jack
-400m 1st
-800m 2nd

Me
-800m 1st
-300m 3rd

For the 3000m I ran, I did not know why but I flunked it and I lost by a mere 0.17seconds and 0.63seconds from the 1st and 2nd runner.

4x100m
1O3 ruled for heats, the runners are as shown
1st-Lam Zihan
2nd-Tan Yu Xiang
3rd-Kevyn Yong
4th-Jack tan

We did very well although we had a nasty fall but still emergered victorious for the heats. We couldn't have done it without good teamwork

4x400m
We got 1ST for 4x400m and runners are as shown
1st-Lam Zihan
2nd-Jack Tan
3rd-Kevyn Yong
4th-Tan Yu xiang

As the whistle blew, Zihan, as the first runner ran like the wind, but faced with strong opponents from the sprints track and field like kee Sian etc....
Although we were the 3rd, 3 more rounds to go, we really have to give credit to Jack Tan as he really "CHOING!!!!!!!" and caught up all the way, being first, 2 more rounds to go and kevyn maintained the lead while I finished off , scared to be overtaken by other runners such as Clarence, the last runner.
However, everyone did their best and we won because of teamwork and team spirit.

On Friday, 14th May, we have our 4x100m finals and hope you will support us and Mrs Anu wanted to bring her dog "Zeus" to make us run faster. We would try our best to make 1O3 proud!!!!

B.B and the Taximan's Story

On 28th April, we discussed about two stories, B.B and the taximan's story, wrote by different writers, Chiam Potok and Catherine Lim respectively.

B.B
Introduction:
Characters: Dad, Mom and B.B

DAD-doesn't like to have children after little Timmy died.
- Dad doesn't wants to go through all that HELL with another sick child.
(I would like to emphasize on the word "HELL" as this clearly shows that the father of B.B is annoyed and frustrated with children and Mom's pregnancy makes him
Feel worse.
-relationship with B.B very close.
(Confiding secrets to him such as his football dreams and aspirations but not to his wife.)
Has many problems that he could not share to his wife as their relationship is strained and there are disagreements and arguments between them.

MOM-loves children
-has a strained relationship with husband
-family means everything to her
-has a fragile heart but a strong front.
("Cries secretly when no one is looking")

B.B-Hates fights between parents and has no one to confide in to his problem as his parents are always quarrelling.
-very filial and mature
-has great emotions
(Cried a lot that night)
-relationship between parents is quite close

Taximan's story

- Father and lay choo's relationship is not very good and Lay Choo seems to hates the father.
- father strict and do not understand his daughter
Visa-versa
Daughter is stubborn, do not understand father.
-lack of trust in the end

Common Theme

In both Stories, they talk a lot about relationships between
-father and daughter
-mother and daughter
-father and mother

We can also refer these stories to a similar story village by the sea
In all stories, the father is the one who created the mess, leaving the children to be victims.

Hwa Chong Track n Field

On 14th April 2010, there was our anual Nationals Tack and field competition. Sprinters, jumpers, throwers and pole vaulters came down to the famous event, not to mention half of the secondary one classes. 1O3 was also selected and hence, we made our down Chua Chu Kang Stadium to witness this extraordinary event.

The event started with high jumpers and students throwing javaline. Hwa Chong outdone the rest in Javaline and high jump too. In the end, one Hwa Chong student got 1st! Now came the much anticipated event, the track event. Mrs Anu, Zihan and I was chatting and had a bet who would win. Mrs Anu began talking about how GREAT indians were and how fast they were. So Mrs Anu bet on a Indian girl, me on a hwa Chong girl and Zihan, as usual, the prettiest he could find there ( so desperate )! Mrs Anu was indeed smart and the indian girl won.

Later, many races took place and had even more bets. This time, it was Jack to play. We bet and I won the bet 4 times in a row! However, the B division boys had their best 4x100m relay which they have been winning for many times. So, having some information from Jack, I was sure that Hwa Chong would win. Thus I said to Mrs Anu:" If Hwa Chong don't win, you can beat me up."

In the end Hwa Chong lost and Mrs Anu.............

10th March 2010 (Wednesday)

Day 1
We were on the bus, going to St.Johns Island, for our Hwa Chong secondary 1 camp. On the bus, the two instructors from the camp, Justin and Shafiq, introduced themselves. They were really friendly and it was not long before we became close buddies. Elated and excited, everyone was with hoping that the bus ride would be faster so we cold get to our camp.
……… (Nothing really happened)

We got on the boat ad during the journey, Zihan felt very tired and took a rest, he fell asleep and happened to lose his balance and fell on me. At that time, I was also tired and resting, Mrs Anu, dying to get a picture of me
(I don’t know why?) Took a snapshot of me and Zihan sleeping! I felt so humiliated! We reached St. Johns Island and took a long walk to our destination.
……… (Nothing really happened except for a short briefing)
We learnt to pitch a tent and carried on with some activities. There was the exhausting and energy consuming commander’s crawl which made a hole in Zihan’s pants. There were also other games. It was time for lunch as we did the hungry cheer. At night, we did a kidnap game were Qiyuan was abducted. I, huisheng, and William went on a quest to find him. Without any clues, it was almost impossible to find him. A one point of time, I went into a place which I found rather suspicious and found a few instructors with a bunch of students which I think Qiyuan was there. I knew we had found them but the instructors shooed us away. In the end Qiyuan was found there.

At night we sleep in the tent, the 1st hour was BURNING HOT!!!!! After the hour, it was rather cooling and just as I was about to sleep, Jack change turned around to sleep in another angle and fell asleep, leaving me and Arnold to a small little space. We could not even stretch our legs! It was too cramp but I finally slept.
11th March 2010 (Thursday)

Day 2

We woke up and my leg was cramped up but we got ready for the day. For the activities, we did a human pyramid, it was so FUN!!! The fun part was falling down and I was on top of William who was screaming in pain, I also remember falling on Shao Dian a couple of times who was quite macho so he didn’t felt it pain. At last we did it! After the fun games, we went on to decide on our campfire performance-dance. I was laughing my hearts out as Jack (the one with the curly hair) had to act as a girl! The dance steps were embarrassing and I was reluctant to dance but did after the enthusiastic Zihan encouraged me.

We then did an entangling game with William, again, was screaming helplessly as his arm was contorted into a wild mess. We also played a game-on my laps which WILLIAM fell so many times. He is the NO.2 joker while Zihan is the first. It now came to the game we have al been looking forward to, Captain’s Ball. As the game proceeds, everyone was hacking their way and was having ‘war’ to fight for the ball. There was an instance where me and Wei Jin was playing monkey with a small kid- it was so COOL! The small and ignorant boy then fell onto the ground after banging me. Group 15 and 16 decided to collaborate and help one another to win. In the end we scored a lot of points and I think we were among the top classes.

Campfire!! Everyone was nervous on our act and had no choice but to perform when called. Before ach performance, the instructors would dance to the music played and occasionally pulled students up to dance. Once, Justin was looking at us and I smelt a rat, thinking, “Don’t pick me, don’t pick me!!” then, an arm pulled me and the next thing I knew, I was dancing with Justin. (Lucky Mrs Anu didn’t take picture!!!)

After the camp fire, we proceeded to our dormitories and surprisingly, I fell asleep immediately as it was so cooling compared to the tent.

(End Of Day 2)
…………………………………Next, Day 3………………………………………..

Hwa Chong Camp

12th March 13 2010 (Friday)

Day 3

It was the last day and we did our last cheer. We did not even do area cleaning. We picked up our luggage and left for the jetty. In the boat, we played a few games with 1O4 and it was quite fun as we bomb here and there.
--------------End-------------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Reflections~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In this whole camp, I felt it was really fun and rewarding. I learnt how to appreciate things- food/ water etc….
I also learnt how important teamwork is and learn basic life skills.
I will certainly look forward to another camp.
Intrapersonal
-------Mary Maloney Journal-------
(School work-Mary's journal)
This fateful day, where Patrick died. It all began on my much anticipated Thursday evening. Lying on the sofa, I waited for him, he was later than usual but i still do it without regrets. The doorbell rang and I did not know why I was so excited at that time. However, that was the beginning of me, still so innocent, far from the real reality.
I greeted Patrick with a big smile on my chin, only to suffer his grey and dull face. He stomped in. My much innocent self went to him, trying all ways to please him, only to be rejected and ignored. At that time, for some reason i still love him, willing to serve him even to be treated as a slave is fine with me. Is it wrong to be submisive and loving? Patrick wasn't like this, he was a good man,so loving and faithful. It all changed, after he changed his job, he changed. He was rude, ill-mannered, aggressive and so unhappy with me. I tolerated his nonsense, but was dying to find out why he became such a cold-hearted man.
My question was finally answered, that Thursday, he sat down giving me a cold shoulder doing man unusual things he would not do. I smelt a rat and the next second, he said he was LEAVING me! I gasped, dumfounded, thinking hard why this was happening, it was a moment of weaknss. I forgot to mention, i was pregnant and i'm just a simple wife who just needs her husband's company. But why? why should i suffer such ill-fate? Such a god wife like me don't deserves this ill-treatment! Immediately, I used the frozen lamb leg and swung it down on the wretched man. He collapsed like a deck of cards, he was dead and I would die without any regrets now................
Learning Profile
My learning profile is "INTRAPERSONAL".
I took a multiple inteligent test which found out my learning styles. after taking more than 50 questions about myself, I found out that my learning style is "intrapersonal". The test compromises of many different questions and most about what things i do best, what am I interested in and many other questions about my information and most importantly, determine my suitable learning style.
Personally I feel that the multiple intelligent test which determines my learning style is very helpful as it essential for good learning. I shall elaborate why.(giving reasons)
1.To make our learning suitable for each of us.
2.If we learn things that we are not interested in or is very weak in that area, we would not learn well and hence, this multiple intelligent test is essential for us.
Lastly i would like to conclude that the learning styles are indeed impotant and would have good implications on us.
Cross-country race
On 24th Feburary 2010, wednesday, it was the hwachong annual cross-country race. Being a cross-country runner, i know how tiring the run was however, I was ready to give it my all. I also new that there are also many excellent runners.
Example:
-Jack Tan(1O3)
-Lam Ziha(1O3)
-Other very good runners like Nan tian and Joel from other class
As a result I have no room for mistakes or it would cost me my race. As the competition approaches, I was indeed very nervous. However, seeing seeig my classmates and friends support, I am ready to run as fast as I could. The horn blared and i immediately started the "3"km race. If you want to know why I put the " " , then read on!
I have to admit, it was really tiring and the other competitiors are really gving me a fight other the championship title. We approach the boarding school and as we were about to make our way down the original route, the ursher and a few peple from NCC told us to run straight to another path we have not lay our fingers on before. I was feeling really weird but so as not to waste time arguing on the routes, 7 pupils(including me) went the 4 km route for the Sec 2,3 and 4 instead!Halfway, I was with mixed feelings, at first I thought that competitive runners had to run an impromtu extra round, just to find out I was hopelessly wrong! As i was returning to the original route, I saw many people ahead of me. Even so, I was feeling even weirder until a point where I saw Tiet Gan. He was in front of me and was shocked to see me behind him. At that point of time, I was really wondering what is going on? Completing the race, I saw many people ahead of me, tired and exhausted from running more. However, I went to a teacher to ask what was going on. With the seven people(inluding Jack and Zihan) we protested against 4 teachers and at last Mr Tok explained to us. He said he could not help as he had to abide by the competiton rules. I undestand that he is in a spot but I was at the same time quite angry as Jack and Zihan were. After hearing Mr Tok speech, I no longer feel that and try my best to work hard for next year. Mr tok could not do anything but I respect him for trying so. Although I was really disapointd and angry that I did not have the trophy but I have learnt a valuable lesson on this event and together, with 1O3, we would work hard next year and put our best foot forward for other races!
The way up to heaven & Lamb to the laughter
In both stories, "the way up to heaven" and "Lamb to the slaughter", stories by Roald Dalph, have many similarities and diffences but their content are very much the same.
Similarities:
(Husbands)
-Both husbands in each story are inhuman, giving their wife a cold shouler as if they do not care for them anymore.
-Again, both husbands find their wife a pain in the neck.In lamb to the slaughter, Patrick Maloney finds his wife too submissive which later left her, only to be killed.Then, in the way up to heaven, the husband knows that his wife hates being late and yet he purposely did his best to try to irritate her as he finds out that she is too much of a nuisance.In the end, both husbands are killed.
(Wifes)
-They are too rash on their decisions and as I have mentioned before in my previous post, they chose the hard way round to avoid reality and killed their husband.
-They changed their personality and have a totally different character from the start.We would not imagined them to be such vicious killers.
Differences:
(Husband)
-Patrick Maloney was really mean and his wife did not mean anything to him but in the way up to heaven, Mr Foster tried to irritate his wife but did not mean a lot harm to Mrs Foster.
(Wife)
-In Lamb to the slaughter , Mary Maloney turns out to be a shrewd and vicious murderer and planned every detail of the murder just to escape law unlike Mrs Foster. Mrs Foster murder was by leaving Mr Foster trapped in the lift.
Overall, both stories have differences and similarities and portay how Roald Dalph use words to describe each character's characteristic and how the story is developed.
What are our thinking different from the past
In current affairs on Friday, 19th of Feburary, we discussed many things. One of them are how our thinking are differnet from the thinking of people in the past. A few of my class mates shared their opinions and had a great discussion. To add on, i feel that we young people take things for granted. Example, young children like to order maids aroung as if they were slaves even for a simple task like taking a drink. People from the past would certainly take their own initiative to do things.
It is most probably because they went through many hardships and do not take things for granted. They experienced the war and went through things that the young people never had or even imagined. As a result, the young people of today are less hardworking and not a spendthrift. They all want the most high-tech items-i phone, i-touch and all the expensive items. The past people had to scrimp and save to survive.
Overall, i think that the parents of the younger generation should not spoil them and let them be spoilt-rotten.
Chinese New Year
Hey everyone! It is the Chinese new year and this is probably the happiest event of the year right? You get to collect red packets, play game such as mahjhong, blackjack and poker, all my favourite games. Don't forget the new year goodies! What would Chinese new year be witout goodies? There are so many different types of food includng love letters, pineapple tarts, BBQ pork, so many others! My favourite is the pineapple tarts, they are so GOOD! If you haven't tried it, TRY IT NOW! What are your favourite new year goodies? Before that is the reunion dinner where there is an abundance of scrumptious food. There are pretty much too many things to eat. However, there are its ups and downs. After a few days of eating good food, personally, I feel that it is not so nice anymore. The new year goodies which appealed to me before, irks me at the sight of it. Overall, i feel sick of them now. So what do you guys feel? Feel free to comment and share your opinions.
My Change of Blog
Sorry for the inconvenince i have changed my original blog-"iamtanyuxaing.blogspot.com"
to my newblog which is this-"yuxiangsthename.blogspot.com" Thank You
English-Mr and Mrs Maloney
Lamb to the slaughter:
Mr Maloney
BEFORE
He is a detective who probably care for his wife and loves her a lot. We can say that as they are almost together everyday and he takes his time off bringing his wife out for dinner every thursday.The chemistry between them is very strong and they are a happy couple.
AFTER
In the story, Mr Maloney was no more the loving husband but has a abosolute differnet personalities as compared to the starting. He bacme a cold-blooded human and did not care for anything else,including his once beloved wife, except for his work. He did not love her anymore and turns out to be callous and not bothering about her state of pregnancy. He is only concern of her not creating a big fuss out of it as it might affect his career and gave his wife a cold shoulder.
Mrs Maloney
BEFORE
At the start of the story, Mary Maloney portrayed as a loving, tidy, submissive and beautiful wife. She was almost perfect and has great housekeeping skills and to her, her husband was the most important thing in her life. She was a simple-minded, innocent lady who expects nothing much except for her husband's company and that, to her was the most blssful thing she could ever have.
AFTER
At the later part of the story, She was a short-tempered, full with rage and a person who does not want to face reality and choose to do things the hard way.She was too rash at some point of time and did not think the consequences before she react. Mary Maloney seems to be a shrewd, calculative and a great actress to fool other cops into believing that the culprit was not her. She lack of emotions and a caring heart to his husband when he died and all she cared about was how to escape the situation without getting caught. As a wife of a detective, she could plan very well how to escape the death sentence and from a innocent, submissive wife to a vicious and prepared murderer. She was a total different person from the Mary Maloney we knew from the starting.
In conclusion people face turn ugly when they are in anger.Reckless people such as Mrs Maloney was too rash and should learn to have self-control for it is not the right thing to do. Further more,she was a nice woman at first so she have good in her. I learnt a phrasein my lesson- "What lies in our power to do, it lies in our not to do" everyone has a choice- like how Mary Maloney had whether to kill her husband
