After you my dear Alfonse

Would you treat Boyd or someone who is not your same race the same colour?

Yes, I definitely would. Mrs. Wilson in the story is being very judgmental seems to look down on Boyd, thinking that he is very poor and could not afford food and clothes. She also felt that Boyd's father and sister, being black shouldn't get good jobs, which stereotypes them with typical black people.
I will not follow Mrs. Wilson’s character and moreover, would not treat people not the same race as us differently. Mrs. Wilson treated Boyd well probably due to fact that she sympathise him and feels sorry for him instead of the friendship he has with her son Johnny. I have a very clear stand between friendship and sympathy. I will definitely treat Boyd as a friend and not a stranger I empathise with.
In conclusion, I feel that we are all people, regardless of race, language or religion, we are still in the same world, with the same people and I believe in meritocracy and not special rights to certain people. No one should be given special treatment or abuse or ostracism. “after you my Alfonse" is a good example of stereotyping black people and I think the world should hold their own ego and put themselves with the level as anybody else in the world no matter which race, language or religion, so the world can live with joy, justice and peace

  1. I agree with you Yu Xiang, I feel that everybody in this is equal and thus should also be given equal rights(as you mentioned) and equal opportunities. We should also treat other people of other race with respect as I believe they have a interesting tradition and culture for all of us to learn.
